Welcome to APSCUF
What began in 1937 as a professional association for faculty at Pennsylvania's Teacher Colleges has grown into an organization touching the lives of over 117,000 students and their families each year.
Today, APSCUF (the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties) represents nearly 6,000 faculty members and coaches employed at Pennsylvania's 14 publicly owned universities -- the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).
Our faculty members provide education in more than 250 degree and certificate programs encompassing 120 areas of study, as well as many continuing education programs. APSCUF members instruct the state's future leaders in business, government, the military, education, service and technology sectors as well as numerous industries.
- PASSHE’s students are APSCUF’s top priority.
- APSCUF stands for quality – teaching is foremost, followed by research and service.
- APSCUF members are passionate about teaching.
- When students choose a PASSHE institution, they can be sure they will have professors teaching all their classes, not graduate assistants.
- APSCUF works hard in Harrisburg to secure funding for PASSHE every year so that students receive a high quality education at the lowest possible cost.
- So that student needs are met, APSCUF constantly strives for additional full-time faculty positions at each PASSHE university.
- APSCUF faculty members teach more hours than professors at state-related universities (Penn State, Pittsburgh, Temple, and Lincoln).
- APSCUF provides numerous scholarships at PASSHE universities.
- APSCUF fights for small class sizes.
- PASSHE universities employ fewer temporary faculty members than peer institutions across the country.
- APSCUF members instruct the state’s future leaders in business, government, the military, education, service and technology sectors as well as numerous industries.
- For every dollar invested in PASSHE universities, PASSHE returns $10 in economic impact.
- One in 34 Pennsylvania citizens is attending or has graduated from a PASSHE University.
- The 617,000 State System Alumni repay Pennsylvania's investment in higher education, as more than 70 percent of PASSHE graduates remain in the state after graduation.
- By helping to provide affordable quality education, APSCUF members contribute greatly to Pennsylvania's growth and development.
- Faculty impact extends far beyond the classroom. Each year, APSCUF members volunteer more than 715,000 hours of public service and charitable work. From fundraising to helping the homeless, they offer their time and talents to help solve society's problems.
- APSCUF members also touch countless lives through continuing education, outreach programs, small business development, technological guidance, offerings in the arts and recreational planning.
- Through their contributions both in the classroom and beyond, APSCUF members bring improved quality of life through higher education to millions of people.
